HOOT is open to everyone - we particularly welcome musicians attending HONK! Oz without a band.

HOOT! pickup band for unattached (and attached) musicians - Ken Field

HOOT! is the HONK! Oz festival pickup band with a New Orleans flavour. All Musicians attending HONK! Oz 2024 are invited to participate in The HOOT! Pickup Band, 

The repertoire is selected and arranged by Ken Field - for intermediate level players and up. Any instrument is acceptable - particularly if you don't need to plug it in.

Open to the public and completely FREE!!  Local and visiting musicians attending HONK! Oz are invited to participate in this band. 

Members of the HONK! Oz 2024 bands are also welcome to join in.


There will be HOOT! workshops and performances from Thursday Jan 11th, 2024 through to Saturday Jan 13th -  Don't worry if you can't attend all sessions. Help Ken to keep in touch with you by submitting the contact form above. Ken will be in contact with access to charts. Please print your parts (Ken will send you a link) and bring to each session (or memorise the tunes).

PLEASE NOTE: The HOOT! Band with Ken Field will also be convening the week after HONK! Oz at the Illawarra Folk Festival. If you are attending the folk festival and want to be part of HOOT! at IFF, you can just show up. The HOOT! schedule is listed in the IFF Program.

​PLEASE FURTHER NOTE: HOOT! does not provide a pass to Illawarra Folk Festival - you need to purchase one, or be part of a contracted IFF band, or join the IFF Volunteer Program.

Ken Field is a composer, saxophonist, flautist, and percussionist. He is on the organizing committee for the "HONK! Festival of activist street bands", in Somerville, MA, USA. His band, Revolutionary Snake Ensemble has received international public and critical acclaim. He is also a member of the 25 piece community based New Orleans style Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band
The HONK! Oz Street Music Festival acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to Elders both past, present and emerging. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which our festival takes place, the Dharawal peoples, their Elders past, present and emerging and their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of our region
