HONK! Oz was founded by members of The Con Artists - a  community ensemble based at Wollongong Conservatorium of Music. The concept was supported by The Illawarra Folk Club who generously provided funding to mount the first festival as a fringe event of the Illawarra Folk festival in January 2015.
The HONK! Oz Street Music Festival acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to Elders both past, present and emerging. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which our festival takes place, the Dharawal peoples, their Elders past, present and emerging and their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of our region

HONK! Oz is supported by the following arts organisations
Wollongong Conservatorium of Music, Wollongong City Council,  Merrigong Theatre, Illawarra Folk Club,
