with Ken Field (Boston, USA) & Leah Van der Meulen ​(Junkadelic brass Band - Perth, WA)

HOOT! is the official HONK! Oz festival pickup band. Musicans from the general public are invited to participate. All Musicians attending HONK! Oz 2022 are invited to participate. HOOT! is FREE!

HOOT! is for intermediate level players and up. Any instrument is acceptable - particularly if you don't need to plug it in. Open to the public and completely FREE!!  Local and visiting musicians attending HONK! Oz are invited to participate in this band. Members of the HONK! Oz 2022 bands are encouraged to join in.

Ken Field is a composer, saxophonist, flautist, and percussionist. His work with the Revolutionary Snake Ensemble has received international public and critical acclaim. 

Ken is on the organizing committee for the original HONK! Festival, an annual gathering of activist brass bands from around the world, which generally takes place over Columbus Day weekend in and around Davis Square, Somerville, MA.

He is also a member of the 25 piece New Orleans style Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band who are the founders of HONK!. They combine music with social action, slamming out the sounds of the legendary Crescent City for peace rallies, street festivals, parades, funerals and benefits.

We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to Elders both past, present and emerging. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which our festival takes place, the Dharawal peoples, their Elders past, present and emerging and their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of our region
